A change of career for Brian Ralston

Looking for a change of career and the opportunity to learn a new trade, Brian Ralston of Shotts, Scotland, a former Supervisor at a Co-Op distribution centre, started to investigate potential plastering courses.

Brian asked around local building sites and established plasterers. One of the names recommended, despite being at the other end of the country was The Building Skills Centre. Brian visited the web site and was impressed enough to book the two week Hand Plastering Course.
On completion of the Plastering Course Brian said “I have been absolutely delighted with the plastering course at The Building Skills Centre and am feeling confident about starting work”. Brian also said “although it has been hard work I have found the school to have a friendly and relaxed environment, the instructors are easy to talk to and always on hand to answer any questions I had”.

Brian also felt reassured that the Building Skills Centre Helpline is available for all trainees after he finished the course. “ I would definitely recommend the courses to anyone considering gaining new skills or improving any existing skills” added Brian.

Brian stayed in one of the local guest houses and found it to be clean and the hosts to be friendly and helpful - “a homely atmosphere”. Brian was also impressed with Yeovil - the facilities within the town centre, its surroundings and of course, the local golf course!

Living in Scotland Brian was able to apply for £200 to help towards the cost of training with an Individual Learning Account.

Since leaving the school we have heard that Brian has already started on his new career path and has taken the first steps on his 10 year plan to establish his own Plastering Company.
