Our new 2 week Hand Plastering and Dry-Lining Courses are proving a great success. Candidates attending these are saying how much they are benefiting from that extra week on the tools and materials. Besides adding new skills the second week also reinforces skills learnt on the first week and gives trainees extra confidence to go out into the industry and work professionally. For those looking to gain a qualification, skills learnt can be used as evidence towards NVQ Units.
Gary McQuaid who has just completed the 2 week plastering course said “I’m really pleased, a few weeks ago I was working as a lorry driver and had no prospects. However, I did have ambition, when a friend who had attended the plastering course passed on The Building Skills Centre number, I had no hesitation in calling them. That was the best decision I have ever made, now I can plaster professionally and I’m looking forward to a new career in the building industry and becoming financially secure”. Gary who is 27 and lives in Corby, Northants added “ It’s brilliant, being taught by NVQ Instructors has meant I’ve learnt the correct methods and Howard and Adrian have been really friendly and helpful.” He went on. “I’ve got several jobs lined up and although I know I’m going to be a bit slow at first, I feel very confident, I know I’m going to be able to do a good job and it shouldn’t take too long to pick my speed up.” Gary, who has 2 ceilings to skim on Monday added “The Building Skills Centre has a Helpline with Howard and Adrian available to help with any problems I may encounter, I hope I don‘t need to call them but its nice to know they are there, just in case” Gary went on to say how much he had enjoyed the course and how thankful he was to Howard and Adrian our Plastering NVQ Assessors who had not only passed on their skills but also kept everybody amused with their mad sense of humour.
