Do you need any previous knowledge?

No. The courses are aimed at people with little or no experience, or people looking to refresh old skills.

Yes, absolutely - in fact some of our best students have been women!

How can I become qualified to work in the Building Industry?

By attending a course at The Building Skills Centre and being taught by our Construction Award Alliance (CAA) and City & Guilds Accredited NVQ Assessors in a friendly and relaxed environment.
On completion of your course you should have the necessary skills to enable you to work professionally in the Building Industry.

How will your training benefit me?

Our position as market leaders in offering this type of course has been built on the quality of our training and the success of our trainees. It is important to us that each trainee succeeds. Our 4 1/2 day courses will teach you a building skill in the quickest possible time. Qualified Instructors, bays with attached piers, window and door openings and small classes, assure individual attention and guaranteed results.
We have arranged with JEWSON for the benefit of our trainees, a discount on all materials purchased at any of their 200 plus branches throughout the UK. The discount is substantial and exclusive to The Building Skills Centre. On completion of your course you will receive an introductory letter to your local JEWSON Branch Manager.

How are the course delivered?

Our short courses are completely practical. Each process is demonstrated slowly and accurately by our Instructors. There is no written work. Fact sheets and notes are supplied for you to take away.If you undertake one of the qualifacation courses then you will be required to complete self study within your own time. Are the courses recognised?

Yes, we are a Construction Awards Alliances (CAA) and City & Guilds Accredited NVQ Assessment Centre and our training is widely acclaimed within the Building Industry. Skills gained on our courses can be used as evidence towards NVQ Units.

Are the Instructors qualified to teach me?

Yes, our instructors are fully qualified. Whichever course you choose our Construction Award Alliance and City & Guilds Accredited NVQ Assessors will ensure that the training you receive is delivered to the highest recognised standards.

How long are the courses and when do they take place?

Coure duration differers depending upon the course you choose. Each course page details the course duration. The hours of attendance are Monday - Thursday 9.30am - 5.00pm and Friday 9.30am - 1.00pm.

Travelling to Yeovil can be done by:
Rail:
The Pen Mill Station is approximately 5-10 minutes walk away.
Yeovil Junction Station is a short taxi or bus ride away.
Car:
From the North leave the M5 at Junction 25 travel on the A358 to Yeovil.
From the South West leave the M5 at Junction 29 travel on the A30 to Yeovil.
From London and the South East leave the M3 at Junction 8 travel on the A303 to Yeovil

What are the accommodation arrangements?

We have local host families who offer bed, breakfast at reasonable prices. Alternatively, you may wish to stay at one of a number of local guest houses/hotels (please see our website for details or call the office for more information). Most accommodation is conveniently situated just a short walk from The Building Skills Centre, the Town Centre and Yeovil Golf Course.

What do I need to bring with me?

All you need to bring with you are overalls and working shoes. All equipment, tools and materials are supplied.

Is it possible to spread the cost?

Yes, on our Staggered Payment Scheme. If you have a cheque book and a cheque guarantee card we can offer you interest free credit on some of your course fees.

Where can I buy Tools?

We sell a wide range of competitively priced tools at the Centre for students to purchase either during their course, or you can buy them via this website.

How do I book a course?

Booking online is the easiest way to guarantee your place on any of The The Building Skills Centre courses. Each course description includes the dates, prices and availability for each course. Simply click on the Add to Basket button to add your choice of course and date to your shopping basket. Click on Proceed to Checkout and follow the on-screen instructions to pay by credit card or debit card.

Booking by post complete the application form in the back of our brochure and return this along with a cheque made payable to 'The Building Skills Centre Ltd'.
